There are many ways to apply and explore the leadership topics described in Unit Depending on you
and your personality, some topics may spark more interest or ideas than others. The purpose of the
social science lab is to encourage you to dig deeper into the topics that spark an interest for you. There
are many ways to explore these concepts including:
SurveysInterviews ask a person or group of people to provide input on a topic or question.
Make sure your questions are clear and unbiased.
Observation observe something or someone carefully in order to gain information.
Experiments develop an idea you can test and then test it
Focus Groups bring participants together for group discussions to gain insight from others.
Case Studies analyze detailed individual or group experiences that provide a detailed
understanding of social phenomenon.
Content Analysis review texts, documents, or media to uncover patterns and themes in
communication.
Social Network Analysis explore relationships and interactions within a group to understand
the structure and dynamics.
This list is not exhaustive, and you are welcome to use whatever approach you would like to explore
your topic even if it is not on this list.

learned.
Submit your reflection in the Assignments folder on Blackboard.
Articulate a broad and expansive definition of leadership as a process rather than a position,
operating at all levels and in all types of organizations.
Design and present an individualized leadership future plan by applying toolkit items at the
personal andor communityorganizational level.
Demonstrate understanding of and improvement in CORE attributes related to designing their
leadership future: confidence, optimism, resilience and engagement.
Demonstrate critical thinking and reflective writing skills through analysis of leadership in context at
the individual, organizational, community andor societal level.
