Cable Sizing by considering load type, derating factors and site conditions Use the cable tables from the readings "Power Cables Supplementary". Problem: Select a suitable cable to supply the following load: 3 phase, 400 Volt, 100 kW motor, power factor 0.9 lagging Cable distance 60m Motor will be started using a star-delta-starter and the starting current is 3x full load A maximum of 5% voltage drop is permissible The 400V distribution board feeding the cable has a fault level of 10kA. The protection will clear the fault in 0.8 seconds. The cable will be buried in the ground at a depth of 800mm. Provide calculations and cable selection (type and cross-section) for the following Supply voltage, load current and site conditions (6 marks) Voltage drop during motor starting (8 marks) Short circuit conditions (4 marks) Provide Final cable selection considering all the factors (2 marks) 600/1000V cables Electrical and physical properties of 3 and 4 core XLPE insulated PVC Bedded SWA PVC sheathed Table 3.26 Cable Size (mm²) 1.5 2.5 4 6 10 16 25 35 50 70 95 120 150 185 240 300 Ground 27 35 46 57 76 99 147 175 207 253 302 344 387 435 498 558 Ducts 223094972 19 12 139 300 48 22 18 59 16 27 67 207 413 471 Electrical Properties Air Impedance (22/km) 22 29 37 46 61 80 138 168 204 256 312 362 alle 416 478 557 634 15.43 9.45 5.88 3.93 2.34 1.47 0.9313 0.6738 0.5009 0.3521 0.2589 0.2109 0.1775 0.1500 0.1247 0.1099 Volt drop (mV/A/m) 26.726 16.368 10.184 6.807 4.053 2.546 1.613 1.167 0.868 0.610 0.448 0.365 0.307 0.260 0.216 0.190 1 sec short circuit rating (KA) 0.21 0.35 0.57 0.85 1.43 2.28 3.57 5.00 7.15 10.01 13.58 17.16 21.45 26.45 34.32 42.90 DI - 3c DI - 4c 8.08 8.85 9.18 10.08 10.06 11.07 11.25 12.40 13.25 14.64 15.21 17.68 18.13 19.86 19.56 22.32 22.49 25.76 25.74 29.81 28.76 33.1 31.39 35.87 34.69 40.12 39.05 44.77 44.22 50.58 48.45 55.56 d-3c 1.25 1.25 1.25 1.25 1.25 1.25 1.60 1.60 1.60 2.00 2.00 2.00 2.50 2.50 2.50 2.50 Physical Properties D2-3c d-4c 1.25 1.25 1.25 1.25 1.25 1.25 1.60 1.60 1.60 2.00 2.00 2.00 2.50 2.50 2.50 2.50 13.70 14.80 15.68 16.87 19.07 21.03 25.13 26.56 29.69 32.94 37.16 40.19 43.49 49.35 54.52 58.35 D2 - 4c 14.47 15.70 16.69 18.02 20.46 24.42 26.86 29.52 32.96 38.21 41.90 44.67 50.42 55.07 61.68 67.16 3c (kg/km) 416 487 566 683 890 1191 1693 2025 2606 3323 4442 5335 6403 8184 10073 12076 4c (kg/km) 453 521 650 778 1033 1544 2018 2511 3242 4503 5650 6731 8708 10343 12932 15575 Copper conductors Power cables 65 Cable Sizing by considering load type, derating factors and site conditions Use the cable tables from the readings "Power Cables Supplementary".
