But if politics are going to be able to impact how any country practices security to keep its citizens and infrastructure (like the livestock industry) safe from real epidemic threats, can we (i.e., the world) ever really have any success in controlling them? Can the current system you've so well described in this country ever really be up to the task? After all, there are countless zoonotic and animal diseases out there, and that number only seems to be growing. Then, of course, there are all the human pandemics, with that number increasing. Its containing it all even possible given the global travel environment we live in? Or is this where we should let hi-tech invasion of our private selves like bio-detection devices become ubiquitous in society?
