Question:
The business uses an existing system that performs various functions such as keeping record of financial transactions, store manager responsibilities and activities, point-of-sale (PoS), report generation, human resource management, marketing activities, inventory record and purchase orders. Some of the key components of JPN business and operating model are:
- Purchasing: Business purchases a variety of materials, such as seeds, from different suppliers to grow their plants.
- Selling: Currently all products are sold to customers in stores.
- Customers’ base: Business sells its products to a variety of customers through various stores across Australia.
- Pricing: To ensure a reasonable profitability, the JPN products are priced based on the estimated material cost that is used to produce the items. Due to the volatility in price of products, JPN updates the price of its products regularly.
Management Challenge:
JPN's management learned that in order for the business to survive in a Pandemic and Post-Pandemic world, the business needs to add a Click & Collect or Deliver Online Store.
Management Concern:
JPN’s management is concerned that the Click & Collect or Deliver Online Store will not fit into the existing system. The management is also not sure how the Click & Collect or Deliver Online Store will increase the business’s efficiency, lower the costs and improve the profitability.
You are working as a systems analyst in Innovative IT Solutions and are given the tasks to first analyse the JPN’s existing system, identify the problems with the addition of a Click & Collect or Deliver Online Store to the existing system and make recommendations to JPN’s management for the addition of a Click & Collect or Deliver Online Store to their existing system. Your recommendations should be practical and implementable that can address JPN’s management concerns. You are also required to provide a plan for securing the Click & Collect or Deliver Online Store.
