CALCULATING COMPONENTS ANALYTICALLY Calculate the components of the tension in the string connected to hook 1 (assuming the mass is the same as on hook 2, which you measured). These will be the actual (accepted) values of the components. Record these values on the data sheet. CREATING COMPONENTS EXPERIMENTALLY Remove the masses from hook1, and set it to 0. Set hook 3 (on the string you set aside) to 90. When masses are added, these will be the components of the original force on hook 1. Add slotted masses to hook 1 and hook 3 (but do not change their position!) until the weights balance hook 2 (still set at 180 + 0). The system is in balance when the center post is in the center of the ring. These will be the experimental values of the components. On your data sheet: record the total mass in kg and weight in N for each hook.
