Dr. Franks walk-in clinic has decided to go paperless and will use an information system to help move patients through the clinic as efficiently as possible. When a patient arrives at the clinic, s/he checks in using the system at the front desk by entering personal information (i.e., name and telephone number). The system then retrieves the patients health history, weight, height, temperature, blood pressure, and other medical information from the patient health record in the system and provides an electronic patient chart to Dr. Frank. After seeing the patient, Dr. Frank updates the patient health record and prescribes medication or treatment information (which is stored in the prescription record), and sends the patient to the checkout desk. The staff at the checkout desk generates and prints the prescription letter for the patient using the system and sends the billing information (which is generated based on the patient health record and the prescription record) to an insurance company.
