I truly cant believe that we are already in week 7 of this course! It seems like just yesterday we were introducing ourselves and begging to dip our toes into marketing. However, I feel like this was one of the most educational classes that I have taken in a long time. While that may sound funny since this is a college setting, I have taken many classes where I feel like I didnt get much out of them by the end. This is usually due to do it being information that Im not interested in (requirements that arent related to my major) or instructors that just arent good. I am thoroughly thankful for the effort put in by Professor Walters to ensure that this class was educational, interesting, engaging, and organized.

When I think about an aha moment or take-away from this course, there are many that come to mind. In fact, I feel like during each discussion post there was one or more times that I had an aha moment from various viewpoints that a classmate or professor had. One specific moment was last week when Professor Walters gave all of the details that admin can control when it comes to social media marketing. This made things a lot clearer as to why I see the adds I do, and why friends in other areas of the country see different stuff, even though we have the same interests and shopping habits.

There are many things from this course that I will be able to use in the future. However, if I had to narrow it down to three, they would be social media marketing techniques, the benefits of choosing the correct target market, and techniques to attract a specific target market.

My biggest "aha" moment did not come from the classroom materials but was the amount of classmate interactions. I am still a newbie to online college learning and the amount of feedback obtained from all my posts were quite impressive. The one post that struck a chord with me was my post about telling a story behind the data through pivot tables and charting out trends. Everyone in the class was supportive and provided awesome feedback.

Three things that I learned from the course that will help me in the future are below:

Marketing towards targeted groups: Understanding the wants from the targeted groups will help shape and mold how to market the product to them. For example, one of my assignments was determining a strategy to target teens. It was a fun exercise to put myself in their shoe to understand their wants and needs.

Using Social Media as a marketing tool: Reading from the textbook and classmates' posts, the best way to market a product is through social media platforms. It is the fastest way to connect to people all around the world in a matter of seconds and the cheapest marketing method as well. Most social media platforms are free to use even for your business. There is additional cost if a business would like to use pop-up video advertisement (which is annoying that a consumer has to wait 15 seconds before skipping the advertisement video).

Being creative with advertisement images: Another thing I learned from the course is to make sure the advertisement still photo is unique, full of vivid colors, and tells a story. The posts regarding the Bridgestone tire advertisement and Grass Straws icons had great images to leave the consumer wanting to buy their product.

There are five developments that have significantly influenced the landscape of marketing on a global level throughout the last decade (Kerin & Hartley, 2017). First is economic protectionism by individual counties, second is economic integration among countries, third is global competition among global companies for global consumers, fourth is the presence of a network global marketspace, and fifth is growing prevalence of economic espionage (Kerin & Hartley, 2017, p. 152).

According to an article found on Business Insider, McDonalds has more than 36,000 locations in over 100 countries (Matousek, 2018). However, many of those locations greatly differ from one another. Not only does the atmosphere look and feel different, but the food and beverage options on the menu are also different.

McDonalds in the United States originally made a name with menu items such as the Big Mac, but McDonalds in Singapore offers options like the Nasi Lemak burger (Matousek, 2018). While the Big Mac in the US includes two beef patties, pickles, lettuce, onions, American cheese, three slices of a sesame seed bun, and special Big Mac sauce, the Nasi Lemak burger in Singapore includes a coconut-flavored chicken patty, fried egg, cucumber slices, caramelized onions, and semolina buns (Matousek, 2018). In addition, the Nasi Lemak burger is usually eaten for breakfast, while the Big Mac is usually eaten for lunch or dinner. Another interesting food item available in Singapores McDonalds is Chicken McCrispy (fried chicken in the US) and Crisscut Fries (also known as waffle fries) (Matousek, 2018).
