Midterm Project

The purpose of the midterm project is to provide you the opportunity to show your ability to solve a problem using computational programming. For your midterm project, you will be expected to solve a problem using 1) conceptualization, 2) pseudocode, and 3) implementation (using C++ programming) through your acquired knowledge on data structures and procedures learned thus far in this course. Please refer to the next section, Project Topic, for details regarding the problem you will have to solve. Likewise, please review the Implementation - Required Data Structures section for information regarding the data structures that are required for implementation.

Project Topic:

For this midterm project, originality will be highly emphasized. Therefore, you and your group will be allowed to select your own project topic. The program(s) that you create as part of your midterm project MUST be your own idea and work. To affirm the originality of your project topic, you and your group will be expected to submit a typed report that details your proposed idea for this selected topic. This report will also need to address the following questions:

• What problem you are planning to solve? How does this problem currently impact society?

• How will the components of this project be divided amongst each member of the group (individual accountability)?

• What real-world/societal impact could your project exhibit?

  Conceptualization & Pseudocode: Prior to implementation, you will be required to map out your logic for building this program using conceptualization and related problem-solving techniques. For this particular task, I strongly encourage you to conduct problem solving strategies via a white-board, pen and paper, text-editor, etc., as seen during class lecture and exercises. After mapping out your ideas to build this program, begin composing pseudocode that reflect your logic for building this program. Finally, after pseudocode development has concluded, begin implementing this program using the appropriate C++ syntax and semantics.
