Can you please respond with a quick two paragraphs , a nice compliment on the writing, and why you agree?
The section of recruitment and selection reminded me of the times I have helped our HR department conduct interviews for social workers and it is interesting how the same set of interview questions are utilized for every candidate interviewed. I have assisted HR with interviews twice and it has always been the same questions. I understand that this ensures fairness for all, but I am sure that although some people might not answer correctly, they can still be a great asset for the agency because they have other strengths as well. Another thing that our HR does to ensure fairness is every time someone shows up to be interviewed, HR will let them know the names of the persons in the interview panels to ensure there is no conflict between them. They also allow anyone in the interview panel to excuse themselves for an interview if there is any conflict with the candidate. The process to get hired can also be long in the public sector. From applications, to interviews, to second interviews, exams (if necessary) and background checks, it could take a few months to complete.
Performance management is also interesting to me because performance evaluations need to be completed by a certain deadline. I think when you work in the public sector, sometimes this could be easily overlooked but it is important to advocate for ourselves. For example, I was due for my annual evaluation at the end of May, and it did not get completed on time. However, our finance department reached out to me and informed me that although my evaluation was not completed on time my annual raise would be retroactive to my anniversary date. As future leaders it is important to remind ourselves that even though we may get busy at times, performance reviews are important for employees to succeed in our agencies. Performance evaluations can help motivate employees to keep up the good work or improve on any aspect of the job that needs improvement. It also allows employees to have a record of their job performance to show any new prospective employers.
