Case: Quick Loans Ltd. Introduction Abby Nicely sat pensively in her office at Quick Loans Ltd. She had just finished a conversation with her sales manager, Nina, who had passed on complaints about Abby's niece, Dianne. As a leader, Abby was known to be a kind-hearted individual who tends to consider the needs of her staff and is always helping those in need So Abby wondered what her next steps would be in dealing with this tricky subject. She replayed the conversation in her head, hoping a solution would present itself. "The sales agents complained that Dianne is impossible to work with. They recognize that she is your niece and they have tried their best to accommodate her. However, they feel she brings in more trouble than help." Nina relayed. "Be patient with her. I promised her mother I would help," was all Abby could say. "I have been extremely patient with her for the nine months she has worked here. However, if we do nothing, I am afraid the sales agents will resign," was Nina's response. The Case of Dianne The daughter of Abby's eldest sister, Dianne was a bitter person. She had difficulty finding work and, as a last resort. reluctantly agreed to work at Quick Loans Ltd. when her mother, Cecile, nudged her to join and asked Abby to help her. Dianne was quite arrogant and believed she should be treated differently as she was a relative of the owner. Despite her lack of knowledge about the company's products, Dianne threw her weight around the firm from the moment she was hired. She is always late for work, constantly on her cell phone and frequently missing from her desk. As a result, she hardly gets her assigned tasks done and her coworkers have to work on files on her desk to placate the customers. Family Tles that Bind Abby realized that Dianne was affecting the motivation of her staff. She feared the possibility that her sales agents would resign, but she felt rather helpless. Abby felt she could not afford to disappoint her sister. While they were growing up, it was Cecile who took care of her, especially after their mother died. Hiring Dianne was the first favour Cecile had ever asked of Bert and Abby. In Abby's culture, a debt of gratitude is an important value. Abby felt deeply obliged to retain her niece on staff and to avoid any fuss that would disrupt family harmony, so she contemplates her options. "What is the best approach?" Abby asked her husband over dinner that evening. "I am not sure of what to do." Questions 1.
