Case Study 1 - Jim

You work as an AOD worker for a local community centre, and one of the youth workers has referred a client to you after the client disclosed he is using drugs.

Jim is 17 years old. He tells you that he has been drinking alcohol for years, but for a couple of months now, he has been taking ICE and is finding himself using almost every day.

1. What indicators of other issues that might affect working with Jim, might you identify through observation and questioning? Provide at least two examples.

To assist Jim and refer him to the most suitable services, you will need to conduct research to identify the various organisations that provide and promote services within the alcohol and other drug sector. Select two appropriate organisations to refer Jim to, provide information about the services and programs those organisations offer, and explain why you would refer Jim to these organisations.
