CASE STUDY #2 : JONES CONCRETE & SCAFFOLDING INC.THE FOLLOWING FACTS APPLY TO ALL FOUR (4) CASE STUDIES:Jones Concrete and Scaffolding Inc. (JCS) is the largest supplier of concrete and scaffolding services in the Northern Virginia area. JCS has 600 employees and has contracts with local and regional commercial construction companies, the state of Virginia, and with the federal government. You are the Vice President for Human Resources for JCS. Prepare a short (one page or less) emailed memorandum for the CEO about the following THREE (3) employee issues. BRIEFLY address each issue.RATE each issue on a 1-10 basis for how serious this is from a management perspective. 1 is a nothing-burger and 10 is very serious, if not an emergency. Make sure your memos address any potential legal and management-leadership issues. Then, give your best advice for the best course of action for management to takeISSUE I: The senior first shift supervisor, Suzi Quatro, left you a Post-It note on your computer screen. The note states that one of the hourly workers on Suzis team, Holly Golightly, quit her job this morning. Holly is an average worker at best and has worked at JCS for about three years. Suzi Quatro added that as Holly was walking out of the building, Holly very loudly told Suzi and everyone else in the area that she was totally fed up with your (i.e. Suzis) bullying and disrespect. I quit!! You will be hearing from my lawyer. I am suing you and JCS for harassment. ISSUE II: The CFO of JCS came in yesterday with a strange problem. Her long-time secretary, Ms. Gappy Hayes, fell at home in her kitchen several weeks ago and knocked out almost all her front teeth. Since then, Gappy has not replaced the teeth with implants or dentures. The CFOs office in the the C-Suite includes the CEO, CIO, and Senior VPs. When Gappy smiles at people, including important customers and outside business executives, it looks hideous and reflects poorly on JCS Inc. JCSs dental/ medical coverage will pay for almost all the cost of cosmetic/repair dentistry. But, Gappy told the CFO that shes super nervous about surgery and hates going to the dentist. The CFO wants to order her to either get her teeth fixed immediately or he will be forced to fire her. Gappy has worked at JCS for 10 years. ISSUE III:Maria Spath has been working the first shift at JCS for the past 15 years as a quality-control (QC) line checker (she visually ensures concrete blocks, bricks, and other products meet minimum specifications). Maria has Down Syndrome. She does not have a drivers license. She is picked up and dropped off every day by her elderly parents. She is always on-time, never misses work, and gets along well with everyone. She has been given pay raises and was employee of the month twice. The problem is that the 2nd Shift at JCS is short three of the five QC checkers needed for maximum production. Pulling other QCs from the other shifts is creating an overtime and morale problem. One second shift QC person quit to take another job, one was fired for misconduct, and another is on 12-weeks FMLA leave. The second shift is desperate to meet production. As a result, the 2nd Shift Manager, told Maria (verbally) yesterday (Monday) that Maria should plan on moving to the second shift beginning next Monday (i.e. next week). Maria didnt say anything. Instead, she choked up, immediately started hugging Judy Jones (her best friend and co-worker on the shift), and then started gushing tears.
