CASE STUDY ASSIGNMENT

An area of focus for HR Professionals, Union Representatives, and Employers is the legalization of

marijuana and how its legalization has affected the workplace.

To explore this further, you will read the $$Northern Timber Company$$ case $($The Case$)$ available $$ shared

in the DC Connect Assignment #$2$ attachments $$ and consider that legalization of marijuana occurred in

$2018$; over a year after the case.

THE TASK

Through a combination of research, critical thinking and concepts learned in class, you will review the

Case and critically analyze the case now that marijuana is legal in Canada. Specifically, compare the

actions taken by the HR Professional and Union Representatives at the time of the case vs$.$ now. Your

analysis should consider:

$$ The key facts of the case from a Labour Relations standpoint.

$$ The impact of the legalization of marijuana in the workplace for an HR Professional.

$$ The difference in the actions taken by HR Professional today given that medicinal marijuana and

recreational marijuana are both legal.

$$ The Unions position at the time of the event compared to today.

Take time to explain both positions, then and now, and both actors, the Employer $($HR Professional$)$ and

Union, and their relevance in the case as it relates to the legalization of marijuana. Remember, an
