Case Study
For this task you will require access to and the use of:
- Workplace documentation relevant to project management
- Planning tools
For this task you are to complete the following activity
- Contribute to developing the work breakdown structure, through interpreting project documentation and documenting the project activities using structure, layout, vocabulary, and conventions appropriate to context, for example through: Brainstorming Mind mapping Expertise contribution Online collaboration
- Contribute to estimating the duration and effort, the sequence and the dependencies of tasks to achieve the project deliverables, for exampleusing: Historical information Expert judgement Analogy estimation Parametric estimating Quantitative calculations for individual tasks
- Using project scheduling tools and techniques, contribute to identifying the schedule impact on project time management, on resource requirements, on costs and on risks, for example: Microsoft Project
- Contribute to achieving an agreed schedule baseline, showing the tasks, deliverable milestones, sequence, dependencies and time estimates, documenting the project activities using structure, layout, vocabulary, and conventions appropriate to context.
- Communicate the schedule to the stakeholders, for example using project management software or a collaboration tool.
- Record and report progress of activities in relation to the agreed schedule, using the selected tool, for example using project measurement tools.
- Record the baseline variance between the actual and planned progress, for example through comparing the actual performance against the original planned figures.
- Contribute to forecasting the impact of change on the schedule, and analysing options, for exampleusing an impact analysis: Prepare for impact analysis Brainstorm major areas affected Identify all areas Evaluate impacts Manage the consequences
- Update the task status and agreed changes, to maintain the currency and accuracy of the schedule, for exampleso that the project manager or other stakeholders can see the progress of a task, and work with agreed changes to the project.
- Participate a review of the project performance to determining the effectiveness of time management, through interpreting project documentation, for example: Performance reviews Trend analysis Earned value analysis Information distribution tools and techniques
- To assist in the project evaluation, contribute to documenting scheduling and time-management issues and responses, for example: Baseline for the initial schedule and time management Variances to the actual schedule and time management Causes of the issue Impact of the issue Options to minimise the impact Actions taken to minimise the impact Result of those actions
