For decades, JJ Office Furniture is a leading Japanese office furniture supplier, specialized in manufacturing ergonomic chairs and self-assembled office desks. Currently JJ Office Furniture has set up a few factories located in South East Asia, one factory in Malaysia (since 2000), and two factories in Bangkok, Thailand (since 2010), with about 100 production workers at each factory. The COVID 19 has shocked the world at the start of 2020 and many organisations have requested their staff to work from home to contain the spread of the virus. This pandemic has resulted a sudden flood of orders for the adjustable self-assembled office desks and ergonomic chairs from stay-at-home workers.
In an effort to expand the overall production capacity, JJ Office Furniture has built a new factory at the Pakse- Japan SME Special Economic Zone in Lao PDR, where production cost is much lower. The new factory in Lao PDR is targeted to operate in the 1st quarter of 2022. Traditionally, JJ Office Furniture has followed an ethnocentric staffing policies for all of its subsidiaries. The top and middle management of JJ Office Furnitures subsidiaries in Malaysia and Thailand are normally filled with Japanese expatriates with little involvement of local staff.
