You work for the local county treasurers office. One of your coworkers, who is also a friend, recently took a position in the assessment office as an administrative assistant to the director. The office employs, besides the director, two additional administrative assistants and five assessors. Your friend handles most of the correspondence with county residents concerning increased property assessments. She follows a format given to her by the previous person in her position. Most of the correspondence can follow a standard format by simply changing names, addresses, and assessed property values. Some letters, however, are individually written to clarify property transactions and inform residents of increased valuations. The director has received numerous complaints from citizens about these letters. They say the letters are negative in tone, contain incorrect information, and include typographical errors. Due to the large volume of letters, the director cannot read every word of every letter before he signs them. Your friend uses her spelling and grammar tools, but she does not check the accuracy of the increased valuations. A review of her last five letters shows that she made typographical errors, misspelled the taxpayers name, and incorrectly keyed the increased property valuation. A first draft of a letter written by your friend is shown on the following page. Your friend asks you to read and evaluate the letter. QUESTIONS Precede your answers with the question number. 1.
