Case Study: John is being released on probation today. His probation officer believes he is a danger to society and should have been placed in prison. The judge refused to sentence him to prison even though the probation officer recommended three to five years for molesting two young girls. John is a local politician. He also contributed to the judge's election campaign. Police had ignored similar pleas from two of John's employees who claimed he sexually abused them. Both are female immigrants who speak little English and would not make strong witnesses. Probation includes many rules and restrictions. John's probation officer holds the power to file for revocation of Johns' probation based upon "alleged" violations.
