Case

Your client is an IT company that makes devices for people who can't do things on their own. It is based in the US and has 25 employees. Most of its sales are in North America. In its first five years, the company grew quickly, but its financials from last year showed that sales had gone down. Recently, the sales department found a chance to get into the Chinese and Latin American markets. So, the management team has given the green light to a set of strategic projects that will help achieve that goal.

One of the projects being started is the creation of a website platform that can be used in more than one language so that the company's products can be bought online. Your team has been hired to run the project for this reason. A vice president told you that this project needs to be done "yesterday," so you need to come up with a plan that will get it done quickly and for as little money as possible. You have a few weeks to do this. The management team has given the project a budget of up to $45K, but you have been asked to keep it under budget if you can. Your team will get the information it needs to make a solid project plan.

Your team can make as many assumptions as it needs to help you finish the project well.

Getting a project done

Your group should make a plan for the project that lists each part and anything else you think is important. The final approval of the project plan will come from the management team. Your plan should be 810 pages long, not counting the cover page and the page of references. It should also include research that your team did on its own. You can make any assumptions you want about the company, its resources, and anything else you need to know to make a good plan.

Task

Based on the above case, you will make a project plan.

The following should be included in the final project plan:

  1. Project Scope of Work (SOW): Set the limits for the work that needs to be done. The scope should describe what will be done, what the project will deliver, and how the work will be done.
  2. Work breakdown structure: For each part of the project, make a list of the specific tasks and subtasks.
  3. Add time elements to each project activity and put them in order on the project schedule.
  4. Resources: What tools do you need for each task, and do you need any special skills to finish certain tasks?
  5. Budget: Give the budget, including an estimate of how much treal-timehe whole project will cost.
  6. Procurement: Getting vendors or subcontractors for the project.
  7. Quality plan: The project will use criteria for judging quality.
  8. Communication plan: a strategy for everyone involved in the project to talk to each other, both in real time and at different times.
  9. Risk management plan: figuring out how to deal with possible risks and backup plans, if necessary
