Systems engineering methodology was described in Week $1$ as 'the science of designing complex systems in their totality to ensure the

component subsystems making up the system are designed, fitted together, checked and operated in the most efficient way'.

The systems engineering methodology follows a series of stages that closely parallel those of the project life cycle and systems

development life cycle $-$ the logical process employed in the evolution of a system.
