Question:
A virtual journey for elderly to reduce loneliness. give you more additional information about this project - The Virtual-Eco Bliss Project aims to improve the recreational experience of elderly people living in long-term care facilities through the implementation of virtual reality technology to enhance their overall well-being and quality of life.2.2 ISSUE This section involves the current problem faced by elderly people in Long-term care facilities. From the need assessment, it is evident that there is an increase in the number of older individuals residing in the KWC area. In this group, elderly people living in long-term care facilities face more isolation. Therefore, a program to improve their recreational experience is needed. Even though there are some recreational activities used in long-term care, they are not properly utilized. Only 40% of Residents from Golden Years Nursing Home use the recreational activities provided, the remaining population chooses not to the service, because of a lack of interest and due to their physical and cognitive limitations. (Caregiver Representative, 2023) 2.3 PURPOSE OF THE PROJECT As discussed in the issue section, even though some recreational activities are practiced in long-term care, not everyone can be a part of them due to their physical or cognitive behaviors. Staff reported that only 40% of people are using them, as some lack interest and many are limited due to their physical and mental disabilities. Thus, the overall mental health was affected and a recreational activity to improve the overall well-being is required for residents of Golden Years Nursing Home. Virtual-Eco Project aims to improve the overall mental health and quality of life of elderly people even with physical or cognitive behavior through virtual reality technology. This takes them into a totally new virtual world where they can listen to nature's sound through headsets (for the visually impaired), headsets, and eyeglasses for others. 2.4 PROJECT OVERVIEW As discussed in the purpose of the project, our team decided to focus and implement our Virtual-Eco Bliss project on 26 residents living in the Main North wing and 2nd East wing of Golden Years Nursing Home. This section consists of 16 independent individuals, 9 totally dependent individuals, and 1 partially independent (slight visual impairment) individual. We plan to propose this to the supervisor of the Nursing home by November 17th,2023. Thus, she could arrange a meeting where we could meet the whole management team to propose our project before November 30, 2023. y achieving all deliverables, we could launch our project by April 20, 2023. Thus, we need to analyze the outcomes, success rate of the project, feedback from the residents involved, barriers and struggles if they faced any, and areas of improvement.
