The purpose of this exercise is to give you some practice at thinking about and doing a job analysis using the job of a 911 operator. You are doing a mini-job analysis so your work will be a mini-version that is much, much smaller than a real job analysis would be.Perform the following tasks:

Perform the following tasks:

a) Search the internet to see if you can find position descriptions, job information, etc. about the job. See if you can find videos or anything on the job.

b) Look up the job on O*Net to learn about the job (or the job closest to the job you selected). You are looking for information about the job as well as person specifications required to do well on the job. Thus, you will want to read about the tasks, KSAOs, and other information in preparation for your exercise. (Side note: Why can't all organizations simply use O*Net for their job analysis information?)

c) I link several videos of successful and unsuccessful 911 calls in the Chapter 4 Resources. Watch these videos and use them to generate positive and negative critical incidents for the task groupings.

Using the information gleaned from your sources, you will create preliminary versions of a job description and person specification. You may have to take your best guess or make inferences because you aren't doing a real job analysis involving many different job incumbents and/or SMEs (subject matter experts). You may have some ambiguity because you won't have as much information as you would if you observed and interviewed 20 to 100 people. Here are your tasks:1) Identify 3 to 5 job duties or task groupings involved in the job.2) Create 2 to 3 specific task statements for each of the job duties or task groupings.3) Identify 2 to 3 KSAOs important to each job duty or task grouping. Identify if the KSAOs are essential or desirable.Try not to write too much and focus on learning about the process.
