Children's memory seems to be sensitive to context; they remember better in familiar, more comfortable settings. This study measured the memory and anxiety level (operationalized as heart rate) of 8 to 10-year-old children in two different settings: a mock courtroom and a small private room. Children interviewed in the courtroom had greater heart rate variability, indicating stress, and poorer recall than children interviewed in the smaller room.
