Part $1-$Case Overview

Your services are requested to analyze the data from the computers used by two employees of the Polytechnic Software Corporation. This corporation has recently undergone some major changes in its business.

These changes include rapid growth, a name change of the business, hiring of a new employee to fill an executive position. The new name of the business is$,$ Polytechnic Software Corporation, and it was formerly known as Price Software Company. The corporation is owned by an individual shareholder, Stacey Price.

Stacey Price has instructed her corporate legal counsel, Dr$.$ Gregory H$.$ Carlton, to hire you to conduct a computer forensic examination at her company.

The company has been experiencing growth, and she has recently decided to expand the company through the hiring of new personnel to fill two vice president positions $($She has already hired a new employee, Larry Ezeerf, as the Senior Vice President$).$

Ms$.$ Price informed you that she is concerned about the impact of hiring new people to fill these executive positions on some existing employees. Mostly, she is concerned about the impact of her decision not to promote her Senior Sales Manager, Tom Warner. Mr$.$ Warner has been part of PSC since its beginning, and he has access to virtually all of the company's information.

Although Mr$.$ Warner has been a valuable asset to the company for years, Ms$.$ Price wants to make sure that he is still trustworthy. Additionally, Ms$.$ Price has noticed that Mr$.$ Warner and the company's Finance Manager, Leslie Stowle tend to exhibit subtle flirting behavior occasionally. Although both are married, given that Mrs$.$ Stowle is responsible for the company's finances and Mr$.$ Warner is responsible for the company's revenue, Ms$.$ Price thinks it would be prudent to analyze their computer systems to determine if there is anything to be concerned about.

Ms$.$ Price is very clear to you that she currently has no evidence to suggest any wrongdoing what$-$so$-$ever, and this investigation is simply a precautionary measure. She insists that the investigation must be completely covert, and it is absolutely essential that no one becomes aware of this investigation. Ms$.$ Price also mentioned that if any of the new people she is about to hire doesn't workout, she is likely to promote Mr$.$ Warner to a Vice President position.
