Fire safety in the workplace is an important aspect for employers and employees. Employers are almost always legally bound to provide the information necessary to keep workers safe. This information is often overwhelmingly presented with a long list of other documents and presentations, as different legislation requires workers and management to abide by their rules as well. Legislation around conduct, accessibility, harassment, inclusivity are all examples of information that is required to be relayed. It becomes just noise, like the safety talk at the beginning of a flight: nobody listens to it. If anything would actually happen, likely 90% of the passengers wouldn't know what to do. But the company 'did their due diligence'.

Here is the question:explain if you think that fire safety talks by Health & Safety reps, the posting of emergency procedures, the holding of fire drills, the presence of Fire Safety Plans etc. etc. are effectively communicated in the workplace. Points you may consider (and this is not a template, be creative): Should the employer be legally bound to provide all the information? Could employees play a larger role in their own fire safety? Is it more effective to require basic safety knowledge prior to commencing employment, and is that a fair requirement? What are the ethical implications? How can we make these talks more interesting? What alternative methods of relaying safety information may be more effective?
