Scenario : You and your partners are together in your regular monthly partners meeting. Each partner is giving an update on the status of activities in his/her department. Your partner responsible for human resources has just finished reporting that your company is experiencing a sudden and dramatic increase in employee resignations. In addition, he/she has also noticed that itis becoming difficult to attract applicants in spite of high unemployment in your region. Your partner always conducts exit interviews with employees who resign their positions. Below you will find the results of the exit interviews with the four employees who resigned this week.
Instructions : Your job today is to identify the most likely causes of the turnover, and then to determine how to manage it. For each employee:

1. Terry worked for your firm for four yearsas a member of your building and janitorial staff and earned consistent pay increases and bonuses. Beginning about 6 months ago Terry began developing migraine headaches and nausea every day at work. Three weeks ago Terry suffered a minor injury when a bookcase fell over. Terry felt compelled by deteriorating health to resign.

2. Jerry was one of your best marketing department employees. Jerry always had the most creative ideas about marketing your business, and most loved following through to see each idea fully implemented. During the exit interview, Jerry mentioned some misunderstandings with fellow employees over who originated the most creative ideas and sometimes felt unappreciated. Jerry also reported not having enough time to see each idea fully implemented before having to jump to another marketing initiative. 3. Dean was a middle manager who had been successfully climbing the corporate ladder until the most recent promotion. During Deans exit interview it quickly became clear that he had had a difficult time working for Barry, Deans new boss. Dean felt unable to meet Barrys expectations, lost self-confidence, and had difficulty sleeping at night. Dean feels as though she had really let the company down. However, Barry had not mentioned any problems with Dean to you, and was surprised when Dean resigned. Dean has just accepted a much lower level job with the city.

4. Pat was a wonderful employee who everyone expected to become the manager of your first branch office. Even though Pat had previously been harassed by another employee (Chris) Pat had continued to work successfully. There had been rumors that Pat was disappointed when you and your partners did not do enough to punish and keep Chris away from him/her. Now Pat has resigned because Chris reportedly told another employee that, Pat must die.
