As we have highlighted throughout this competency, a key element of any leadership journey is self-reflection. Effective leaders know their capabilities, think intentionally about their values and skills, and communicate this information to others. To tie these pieces together, you will create a cover letter for a senior leadership position highlighting your current capabilities and your aspirations for the future. For the purposes of this activity, focus on your leadership skills rather than specific technical qualifications. The position is for CIO of a University.

1. Identify a senior leadership position that you might apply for at some point in your career. (Chief Information Officer) Find an actual job description at your institution or elsewhere. Briefly describe the position and relevant qualifications.
2. setup a two-page cover letter that would accompany your application for the position. Your letter should discuss the following elements:
   1. A description of your leadership journey and vision for the future
   2. The leadership qualities that make up your personal brand
   3. Guiding principles that drive your leadership approach
   4. Examples of how you lead from the head and the heart
   5. Examples of how you can lead up, down, and across the organization
