Compose a preliminary topic sentence/thesis statement that you believe will be the start of your research process for this semester's final assignment. Realize that broad issues are not topic sentences. You have to hone down a large issue such as abortion, immigration, etc. and must dig down deep in order to get to what you actually want to research. When you think that you have arrived at a topic, you're probably still dealing with a large issue. It will take a modicum of preliminary research to get to an acceptable topic.
