Conduction through pipe wall with insulation. Saturated steam flows through a 1" Schedule 40 copper pipe, at 20 psia. The pipe is wrapped with 3" thick fiberglass insulation, with k=0.05Wm-K. Assume the temperature at the outer surface of the insulation is 50C, and the temperature at the inner surface of the copper pipe is the same as that of the steam.
a. Calculate the rate of heat loss from the pipe, per meter of length. Do all calculations in SI units.
b. Plot the temperature (using Excel or another program) as a function of radius, from the inner radius of the pipe to the outer radius of the insulation (in degrees Celsius).
