Configuring Point-to-Point Serial Links, Examining Interface Status and CDP

Procedure

Each workstation group has a set of routers with serial interfaces and a set of DTE/DCE cables. You must decide on the cabling topology that will connect the routers. For each link, one router will function as the DCE and the other as the DTE. The DCE on each link must be set to send a clock signal to the DTE router in order to provide clock synchronization. Once all interfaces have been configured and verified as Up, utilize CDP commands in order to examine the directly connected devices.

Each group must show the instructor their proposed topology before beginning the lab.

Make sure you know whether your router is a DTE or DCE and which interfaces you will be working with.

Routers must be configures such that:

They have an appropriate hostname (suggestion: use city names, such as St. Louis, Chicago, etc.)

The state of the appropriate interfaces and their associated line protocol is up

DTEs must have the encapsulation configured to match the encapsulation on the DCE (should be PPP).

DCEs must have the clock rate set.

Utilize the command to examine interface status to determine connectivity.

When finished, do not save your configurations, simply reboot.

Commands

ENCAPSULATION PPP, ENCAPSULATION HDLC, CLOCK RATE 64000, SHOW CDP NEIGHBOR, SHOW INTERFACE, HOSTNAME, SHOW CONTROLLER, NO SHUTDOWN

Questions

1-Can you ping the router next to you? Why not?

2-List all of the encapsulation options available for these interfaces.

3-Research and explain the purpose of the CLOCK RATE .

i need the answer for those please
