Case A product certification scheme of Tourmalin

To facilitate the sales and trading of Tourmaline, a group of recently popular gemstones, the Hong Kong Precious Stone Trading Association (HKPST) published a standard Technical Guideline on Classification and Grading of Tourmaline and was planning to setup a corresponding production certification scheme. In the scheme, tourmalines would be sent to the in-house laboratory of HKPST and graded individually according to the standard. The characteristics to evaluate included chemical composition identification (for evaluating the origin and species), colour & intensity, weight, dimensions and shape & cutting type. A gemological report with specific ID number showing the evaluation results would be issued to individual tourmalines
