Considering your audience

Another important prewriting step is to consider your purpose and your audience. Obviously, the goal of this final researched argument paper is to persuade. Along with persuading your audience (your classmates and me), you may also be doing a bit of informing on your topic. For this discussion forum, I would like for you to respond to the following prompts:

• How familiar do you think your audience is with your topic?
• What, if anything, do you think your audience may be unfamiliar with regarding your topic?
• What terms do you think you might need to define regarding your topic?
• What position do you think most of your audience holds on your topic? Why?
• Do you think your audience's position on the topic will match your own, or do you think you will be attempting to convince a somewhat hostile audience?
