"Since it seems like an honest portrayal of life as it truly is, messy, unpredictable, and contradictory, Ecclesiastes resonates with me more than any other wisdom text. The metaphor in the book that life is like smoke, something that appears solid but disappears when you try to grasp it, resonates strongly with my own experiences of the world. Regardless of how hard I try to prepare or do the "right" things, the results frequently seem arbitrary, unfair, or completely beyond my control. I value Ecclesiastes' candid admission that life doesn't always operate in such tidy and predictable ways. This stands in contrast to Proverbs' explicit explanation of cause and consequence.

I find Ecclesiastes to be very meaningful since it addresses life's hard realities head-on without masking them. It recognizes the frustration, inadequacy, and even emptiness we occasionally experience when things don't work out the way we had hoped or when even our successes seem short-lived. The beauty of Ecclesiastes, however, is that it keeps us from feeling hopeless. Rather, it pushes us to enjoy the present, even in the face of uncertainty. Ecclesiastes encourages us to value the things we do, such as eating meals with those we love, taking a stroll outside to enjoy the scenery, or taking pride in little accomplishments. It serves as a reminder that I may find moments of fulfillment and significance in my life without having all the answers or controlling every aspect of it

Overall Ecclesiastes encourages me to let go of the illusion of control and embrace the uncertainty of life. I find peace in knowing that I can't always know the answer or solution to something but I'm willing to take the time and figure it out. I also know that some things are bound to not workout no matter the efforts put in. I find solace in giving myself grace."
