When I look at building the Lord's church according to the reading, it couldn't have come at a better time. I have been asked to preach at a church without a pastor for the next three months, rotating with other leaders from my church. My first message I will be teaching from is "God's mission for God's people." This is based on the book we read early in this class, where I was astonished by one of the foundational scriptures that deals with God's mission in Genesis. The Lord said, Shall I hide from Abraham what I am about to do, 18 seeing that Abraham shall surely become a great and mighty nation, and all the nations of the earth shall be blessed in him? 19 For I have chosen him, that he may command his children and his household after him to keep the way of the Lord by doing righteousness and justice, so that the Lord may bring to Abraham what he has promised him. (NET Bible, n.d., Gen. 18:17-19) Our missional imprint on our community should be seen not only on Sunday, but we must adopt the imprint in our daily walk.
