Second, homework makes the students work independently. Homework teaches children to be resourceful. As they must do things on their own, they have to learn how to use available sources of information at home such as the Internet and books. This boosts their confidence in independent problem-solving and in handling situations alone in the future. This also improves their research skills and exposes them to a wider range of learning through the usage of additional materials. Third, through homework, there is improvement in problem-solving skills. By engaging in more complex and challenging tasks, students develop problem-solving abilities and critical thinking skills. Homework also encourages self-discipline, organization, and time management, preparing students for futtre academic and professional endeavors. On my second and third contentions, you may argue that academic dishonesty may prevail. Hence, you may address this by advising the students not to share their assignments. If a classmate has a question, try to help, but do not "give"\" them the answer. In addition, you may require the student to give or have supporting documentation that he/she alone did the assignment with the aid ol an adult. Elementary school students who were taught strategies to organize and complete homework, such as prioritizing homework activities, collecting study materials, note-taking, and following directions, showed increased grades and more positive comments on report cards (Shepard, 1999).
