Creating and Using Codebooks This assignment will allow you to practice creating and using codebooks. There are three parts to this worksheet. In part one you will create a codebook based on a provided example survey. In part two you will write survey questions based on a provided codebook. In part three you will practice data entry using a provided codebook and two completed surveys. Please see the video on Canvas in the pre-class assignments for an example of how to use a codebook. Part 1: Creating a Codebook Directions: In this part you will practice creating a codebook from a blank survey. On page 2, you will see a blank product satisfaction rating survey. On page 3 you will see table 1, a blank codebook. Using the example survey (p. 2) please create a codebook by filling in table 1 (p. 3) for each question on the survey. As you will see in table 1, you should include the variable name, label, question type, variable type, and values for each survey question. Part 1 is worth four points. 1 Example Survey 2 Fill in Table 1 Below: Table 1. Blank Product Satisfaction Codebook Product Satisfaction Codebook Variable Name Variable Label Question Type (Open- ended or Close- ended) Variable Type (Nominal, Ordinal, Continuous, or String) Values 3 Part 2: Creating a Survey from a Codebook Directions: In this part you will use an existing codebook from a student survey (table 2 below) and re-create the survey questions that accompany the codebook. Please type out the survey questions and create a survey (see page 2 as an example) in the space provided on page 5. Part 2 is worth four points. Table 2. The codebook in Table 3 shows seven items from a depression scale. On page 7 you will see two completed surveys from participants 5 and 6 from this depression scale assessment. Please fill in the data for participants 5 and 6 into table 4 (page 7) using the codebook and their completed surveys. This part will be worth 2 points. Table 3.
