Question:
Creating the best workplace on Earth. Goffee & Jones,May 2013, 91(5): 90-106.
1. The textbook says that it is important for managers to combine "intuition" with the systematic study of organizational behavior and management, including evidence-based management. Why is this important? How does this differ from the idea that management is just "common sense"?
Hint: Rely on chapter 1 for this answer.
2. There were many job attitudes described in chapter 3 and the PPT slides. Some may say that the definition of some of those attitudes "overlap" with one another. Describe how these work attitudes are similar and different from one another (describe at least 3 attitudes). Also, describe the value that these worker attitudes offer an organization.
3. Some management scholars and consultants view job satisfaction as a "sum of its facets" Briefly, describe the TWO most important facets contributing to your own "overall" job satisfaction? What is the least important to you?
Hint: If you have never had a job - what do you think would be the important and not so important facets for you in the future?
4. Provide an assessment of your (current or past) workplace based on Goffee & Jones ideas six virtues of the "best workplaces on earth". How do these virtues affect employee work atttitudes and performance?
Hint: I would consider this question the most important of the project (worth maybe 30-40% of the grade). Describe the six virtues, but you can concentrate on one or two (the ones you would consider the most important) to provide a detail discussion of attitudes and performance. If you have never been part of a work organization (or are just feeling creative), try answering this question for a different type of organization you belong to - military group, church, student organization, volunteer group, school, etc...
