Module Objective 3. Identify fallacious authority arguments (CO 3 & 7)

In this discussion, we'll identify people we trust and take advice from and discuss what makes these sources trustworthy. Be sure to carefully read the instructions below.

Each post should be at least a paragraph in length (~4-5 sentences).

Posting #1: Please identify and describe people in your life that you take advice from and trust. Why do you trust them? Are they knowledgeable? Do they have conflicts of interest? Do they tend to agree with other experts?

How do you know they have your best interests in mind? Have they ever let you down? Are there people in your life who do not always have your best interests in mind? How did you learn that they are not trustworthy? What does this teach you about the role of authorities in your life? Remember that each post should be at least a paragraph in length (~4-5 sentences).

Try to explore the fullness of what it means to be trustworthy. For example, some of us might talk about our family members, but while family members might often, though not always, have our best interests at heart, they don't always have the best advice. They might not be the most knowledgeable about the subject at hand. So, explore examples in addition to family and characteristics in addition to having your best interests at heart.
