Danner Doud$-$Martin bicycled to work knowing it would be another challenging day in her new

role as Team Lead for University of California Berkeley $($UCB$)$ Haas School of Business Chou

Hall Zero Waste Initiative. As UCB's Chou Hall was getting ready to open in fall of $2017,$ Doud$-$

Martin and the team knew the expectation was that it would complete the TRUE Zero Waste

certification shortly after, becoming the first academic building in the country to achieve that honor.

However, she still needed to convince Haas senior leadership, her colleagues, students, and visitors

to change ingrained habits to make that happen. For example, Chou Hall's Caf$$ Think could not

offer chips in disposable bags or yogurt in single$-$serving plastic containers. There would be no

trash cans$-$yinstead visitors needed to pack out all trash. Also, custodians had to adopt more

sustainable cleaning methods. Doud$-$Martin was working on a short timeline to achieve Zero Waste

status for the newest building on campus. Thankfully, recognition for such efforts came from the

top.
