Data is everywhere. Identifying opportunities for data collection and defining multiple forms of data are critical steps for leaders who want to gain a competitive age in their operations.

Do you agree or disagree with this thought (Explain):

The scenario under discussion: Sarah was informed she was enrolled in a car data program designed to provide feedback about her driving experience with her car insurance company. The parties that may want access to Sara's car data is her car insurance, motor vehicle administration, car dealerships especially used and leased dealerships, vehicle manufacturers and other companies that collect statistical information on drivers (Sharda et al., 2018). The data collection process will more than likely use sensors to determine the amount of brake pedal, gas pedal and horn usage based on a specific numbers of miles driven per day (Sharda et al., 2018). Of course the sensors would monitor mileage per day which can determine the numbers of miles traveled daily, weekly, monthly, and yearly (Sharda et al., 2018). The driver's average speed, number of accidents can be monitored along with stop signs, red light and yellow light behaviors, and appropriate use of signals, etc., can be used by camera placement in the vehicle (Sharda et al., 2018). Of course data that could/should be collected will be demographics, geographic area in which Sarah live, work and travel via her vehicle. The data could be collected through sensors and through video cameras placed in the vehicle to record information. A data collection method that could be used is driver safety software called telematics software which along with other capabilities could provide unsafe driver information (HSE Network, 2021). The data that the data program wants collected can be collected along with other data via the sensors or camera and be sold. The ethical aspect of data collection such as permissions for data to be sold to third-parties, for data storage of information collected by businesses in which the consumer does business are not in place which is the reason companies sell some of their collected data to other companies (Maher et al., 2019).
