The first step in planning your career is evaluating and understanding your aspirations, strengths, interests, drivers, and other influences. Where are the gaps?
What options do I have to gain these skills or qualify for these jobs?
What skills do I need?
Where is the work?
At the end of this step you will have a list of preferred jobs and/or learning options.

Step 3: Making a Choice & Picking Goals
This step involves comparing your options, narrowing down your choices and thinking about what suits you best at this point in time. Consider the suitability of each option and decide which one is the best match to your aspirations and workforce needs. Before making the decision, consider also:
What are the perceived barriers/obstacles and how can they be overcome
Outside of work/school commitments
The level of involvement required

STEP 4: Creating a Plan with SMART Goals
Here you plan the steps you need to take to put your plan into action.
Use all you have learnt about your skills, interests, and values together with the information you have gathered about the world of work to create your plan.
Begin by asking yourself:
What actions/steps will help me achieve my work, training, and career goals?
Where can I get help?
Who will support me?
At the end of this step you will have:
o A plan to help you explore your options further (e.g. work experience, or more research); or
o A plan which sets out the steps to help you achieve your next learning or work goal.
Decide which step is relevant for you right now and start from there.
S SPECIFIC: State the specific goal to achieve. This should be a detailed statement(s).
M MEASUREABLE: What is the actual unit of measurement of success that signifies that this goal is met/achieved? What is the tangible proof that this goal has been completed.
A ACTION: What action steps need to be completed to achieve the goal? These steps (minimum 5 required) need to be detailed. The action step must be listed and include how and when and who it will happen with.
R RESPONSIBILITIES/RESOURCES: Who and what will assist you to work on and achieve each action item you listed. What Resources are needed and required?
T TIME-BOUND: This is different that the when or action step occurrence What is the duration of each action item? Or what is the period of the commitment of each action item.
