If officers are chasing a suspect whom they have probable cause to arrest, they can follow the suspect into a house without getting a warrant (U.S. v. Santana 1976). So officers wouldn't need a warrant to enter a home to search for a fleeing armed robbery suspect and weapons. But how extensive can the search be? Only as extensive as is necessary to prevent the suspect from escaping or resisting.
