DESCRIPTION This assignment asks you to complete a research study on either job performance or organizational commitment. You will use interviews to identify predictors of one of those two key OB outcomes and will collect survey data to test those predictions.

This assignment is time-consuming, but not diffieult. It takes time management to successfully complete it. If you have a very busy schedule, I encourage you to begin working on this project as soon as possible. General questions for clarification are welcome, but you are expected to show the capacity to take on a project and produce a deliverable with limited guidance from your instructor. Time management, proactivity, and independence are crucial skills for successful business professionals.

I GOT ORGANIZATIONAL COMMITMENT

DETAILS ON TEAM RESEARCH PROJECT (Theory Testing Phase) Now that you've come up with your theory and hypotheses, it's time to test them to see if they are supported with data. First, you must come up with ways of measuring the concepts contained in your hypotheses. OB research typically involves several kinds of measures, including self-report scales (where a "scale" is a collection of multiple survey items), behavioral observation, and organizational records (e.g., performance appraisal forms, time card data, absenteeism rates, productivity indices). For the sake of simplicity, your project will use only self-report scales.

You will create or adopt two scales of no more than 10 items each. One scale will measure vour independent variable and the other scale will measure your dependent variable. (There are a number of resources listed at the end of this handout to help you create these scales).

You will then administer your survey to 30 people who are as different from one another as possible. You will enter the data in an Excel spreadsheet and compute some basic statistics:

Reliability of each scale

The mean and standard deviation of each scale

The correlation coefficient between your independent and dependent variable and statistical significance (i.e., p-value)

If you have trouble computing these statistics, I expect you to consult one of the resources listed at the end of this handout. Your instructor will not compute these statistics for you.

Your theory receives some verification if the correlations in your data support your hypotheses.

If they do not, then your theory needs to be amended. Note that the support (or lack of support) of your predictions has no bearing on your grade. Research projects rarely turn out exactly the way we want.

Your assignment should give the following details. All answers must be posted in the discussion board (no attachments will be graded).

The survey items used to measure your independent variable and dependent variables.

Demographics of your survey respondents (e.g., percentage of males/females, average age, average years of work experience, etc.).

Mean and standard deviation of your survey responses.

Reliability of each scale (i.e., Cronbach's alpha)

The correlation coefficient between your independent and dependent variable and the statistical significance of this correlation.

A paragraph describing the interpretation of the results including whether the correlations

A list of 5 very specific prescriptions for managers, based on your results.

INTERVIEWED DATA

2.Questions

1. What does commitment mean to you?

2. What is one thing you would change from the company if you could?

3. Why are you more committed to this job you currently have rather than a job 20 or 15 years ago?

4. Why did you leave you last job?

3. Responses

Thelma-

Commitment is getting the job done, this means if the company treats me good, I will be committed and do well.

The pay, even though my benefits are amazing for everything the pay in these circumstances in the world is not enough.

Like in my last response the job benefits are amazing as well as retirement.

For opportunities like my current position, it was a big step up and knew it was a lot more responsibility and commitment/

Kimberly-

Commitment for me is like having a passion for something makes you want to work and get the job done when needed.

I think I would change some the starting pays it hard during these times not getting cost of living raises

This job truly showed me what it is to work a job you actually are happy with and enjoy it everyday as well as the benefits.

I wanted better for myself and for my son this job had the benefits to help us and it did.

Billy-

This job was a big commitment and Im glad I took it; commitment is loyalty for me.

Some of the things I would change about this company is the way it is ran sometimes it seems like people do not have common sense people as in the corporate people.

The benefits of our jobs are utterly amazing along with retirement its something not a lot of organizations have.

As I was getting older, I realized the importance of my retirement plan so it made me revaluate and pick somewhere I could commit and be calm.

Theresa-

Commitment means to be able to complete this job whenever it is needed and to do it right.

Some things I would change about this company is probably tech support because they do take a long time with things to get done.

This job allowed me to bridge into something different and something that will help me for my retirement.

My last job wasnt as good as this one it wasnt what Ive always wanted to do had no benefits or good pay.

Construct interesting constructs-

Everyone is different when it comes to commitment everyone has their own meaning

Seeing you managers committed make you more committed

Whenever something isnt right usually everyone agrees on it such as the pay

Old jobs are usually something you look back at and appreciate because it makes you realize where you are now.

5.Theory-

There is many things that can affect ones commitment at a company just depends on the person and who they are.

6.Hypothesis

Commitment can change over time when someone gets older and also it could depend on who influences you to become committed.
