Design a T-beam using the following information.
Given information:
The following FACTORED shear and moments are as follows:
i. Shear is 87 kips
ii. Positive moment is 340 ft -kip
iii. Negative moment is 372 ft -kip
The slab is 412'' thick.
The width (b) of the stem (web) of the beam is 12 in ., the total height (h) is 24 in . Beams are spaced at 10'-0'' center to center. The beam is 27'-0'' long. The beam is at the interior area of the floor.
The concrete compressive strength, fc, is 4,000.
The reinforcing is ASTM A615 Grade 60.
Use 112 cover for the beam.
Center the bars in the slab.
Provide the following:
a. Design the flexural reinforcing at the bottom of the beam. Do not use #10 or bigger bars; use #9 or smaller. This might require multiple layers of reinforcing, but that is okay. In each row, there should be more than one bar and it should be placed symmetrically.
b. Design the flexural reinforcing at the top of the beam (i.e., in the flange of the tee).
c. Design the shear reinforcing (size and spacing) for the shear demand.
d. Draw an elevation and a section of your design showing the reinforcing you are using. Be NEAT!
