Determine the end support reactions for beam B2. Represent this beam as simply supported (pin
support on one end and roller support on the other). Using a straight edge, draw a FBD to scale and
label: (6 points total)
5.1. The beam length (in ft to the nearest ).(1 point)
5.2. Label grids 7.1 and 5.4.(1 point)
5.3. Uniform load for the beam weight, Wwt (in plf).(1 point)
5.4. Uniform load from WTL (in plf). The uniform load from WTL can be obtained by taking the w TL from
part 2.3 and multiplying it by the tributary width from part 3.2 to get units of plf.(1 point)
5.5. Determine the beam end reactions, R using the formula, R =(WTL +Wwt )L/2(lbs) and your answers
from parts 5.3 and 5.4. L is the length of beam B2.[Hint: It is possible to determine these by using
the equations of equilibrium (SMpt =0, SFy =0, and SFx =0) however, since there is symmetry in
the loading, and support conditions (both ends are pinned), the end reactions are the same.]
Give correct magnitude, and units. (2 points, 1 each for magnitude and units) You must show
your work to get credit however if you did part 5.5 correctly the end reaction for B2 should be
3,337.6 lbs.
