Did you do anything wrong? (this is a question about ethics) Please prepare a short report, in memo form, explaining your position.

Below is the scenario. Please use the scenario to answer the question above. While you have attended NJIT pursuing your degree, you have been working as a CAD operator for a medium sized architectural firm. Part of your job is to produce the final contract drawings that the architects prepare as well as handling shop drawings and related documents. Because of the aspect of preparing and reviewing shop drawings, you have had some contact with several local contractors as part of your job. As things would have it, you have several phone conversations with a couple of the contractors, usually about a baseball or football game over the weekend. One day, one of the contractors compliments you about your CAD skills and asks you if you do any work on the side. Your response is that you havent but you could. The contractor tells you he needs a CAD drawing for a project and asks you if you could do that for him. You agree to do a little work for him in your off hours. As you dont have the software or hardware that the firm has, you decide to stay late and work at your desk. Of course, you punch out because youre not working for the architectural firm at this time. The work goes well and the contractor is happy with the work and pays you. In fact, the work goes so well that he starts sending you more work and tells his friends so that you are starting to develop a nice little side hustle. Although youve been very careful about what youve been doing, one of the principals of the architectural firm calls you into his office one morning and asks you what you have been doing. Of course, you tell him nothing. He tells you that he saw a shop drawing from a contractor that looked a lot like something this firm would produce, but it wasnt produced, in fact, he had to review the drawing. He then calls in the firms IT guy who has documented your time on the firms mainframe at night, in what should have been time when you werent supposed to be in the office. You finally tell him that you were doing a little work on the side and didnt think anyone would mind. Besides, you were just using the computer, thats all. He fires you on the spot.
