discuss some possible dangers associated with developing complementary services in the example below

The service that I chose was healthcare as it directly relates my background. Currently due to the pandemic we are facing many challenges within the healthcare sector. Weirdly during the peak of the pandemic starting our Childrens Hospital was very slow and instead of budgeting employees we moved nurses around and had them assisting in alternate roles to ensure the needs were filled. We as an organization was forced to open vaccine clinics for the COVID-19 vaccine as well as alternate testing facilities to meet the community need and demand throughout Kentucky and Southern Indiana.

To assist with burn out and help employees feel appreciated for their sacrifice we the organization came together with a few initiatives in 2020. First April 2020 all elective procedures were cancelled with counted for more than 40 % of our revenue as an organization. Instead of working on cutting pay checks or budgeting/lay off. We approached things differently Providers were given an adjustment if they were on a productivity model meaning due to attempt to social distance scheduled were closed and all clinics operated under half staff. During this providers were given an adjustment with the comparison of what they seen last year as far as wRVUs which is how they are graded and calculated for their yearly bonus.

Staff were given all their time off when offices were limiting paid in full, other healthcare organizations in the area were NOT giving paid time off during this and having to cut staff and perform layoffs. This made our staff want to help more. Providers began pitching in to asssit with hospital rounds, receptionists were going and helping in the hospital and stocking, transport, temp checking, where ever the need took place we came together and got it done. In Aug 2020 the organization announced a 1% pay increase to all staff which shows appreciation for hard work. Due to the demand and stress this placed us all under from families impacted by the pandemic, staffing crisis due to people not having any child care etc.

Low and behold in Decembers 2020 we received another 1% pay increase as well as a one time bonus payout of 1% of your base salary if you had been with the organization through the beginning of we came to know as the global healthcare crisis of COVID-19 virus. These incentives really helped and pushed my organization to appreciate the staff they had and help make all of us more cross functional regardless of our background. We have executives that were previously floor nurses and they put their scrubs on and helped where we needed.

As a manager I had to report all staffing on a daily basis if I had someone extra or was fully staffed we made due with the load of patients and we gave team members up to help where the need was. I personally worked in the vaccine clinics. I volunteers as a salaried manager to help administer vaccines to help make a difference in the organization and in the community and honestly it felt great. We had a daily COVID-19 discussion call and each director had to give up so many employees and if we couldnt we had to make the justification of why and send the leader. This done nothing more but create a STRONG working environment. I am proud of the place I am employed and to be apart of life changing work.
