Discussion - Your First Favorite Book Do you remember your first favorite book? Try to remember the first time you said, "wow." Maybe you were much older when you first fell in love with a book. In 150 words +/-, pick a detail (or a few details) and make it/them \"shine." Maybe you use a guote or finc! a |Ene from a review online. (Just be sure to say which it is/where it comes from.) These finds are your "pearls.\" I've highlighted some that led me to my own ideas in the following example: My grandparents gave me my first favorite book for my second birthday. | know because they inscribed it, and somehow | still have it, The Nlustrated Collection of Children's Literature, and it's bigger than a Bible or a college textbook. | remember feeling like a very big girl to have such a big book. Of course | scribbled in crayon and tore a few pages, but it's fun with all the images that still strike a chord. The short poem, "Soap," appears beneath a lively watercolor of a girl in an old-fashioned tub, and she wears a big bow in her curly blond locks. It's one of the few poems |'ve ever memorized. Just last semester, | even discovered new depths to it. The disobedient\" soap has become, for me, a metaphor for that slippery and evasive little bit of magic that writers like to call the muse... "and that's why my soap's growing thinner each day." It can be exhausting unless you make it fun. (155 words) Of course you're welcome to experiment with my angles.
