Classmate 1 Question: Internal affair units are specialized staff units with exclusive responsibility for policing the police; an organizational invention for the internal processing of matters related to employee misbehavior that was developed in the 1950s and 1960s (Gaines et al., 2011). Internal affairs are important to police departments and the community because when a police department is suspected of misconduct and wrong doings internal affairs investigators are there to learn the truth and protect both the accused officer and the department. Their primary purpose is to determine the truth and report the facts in an effort to uphold and maintain the integrity of the police department. Watching the news and reading many articles about police using excessive force when it is unnecessary and when killing innocent people I would say internal affairs is not fair nor credible. I have read about many police officers getting off the hook or getting a slap on the wrist when they were in the wrong and should've been held accountable.

Classmate 2 Question: Having an internal affairs unit within the police department is extremely important because they are the ones who investigate everything that have to do with employees and the community complaints for the department. According to the e-text there are eight different reasons to why they have internal investigations procedures. The Task Force Report expressed very clearly that every department needs an internal affair in order to control the related matters to police misconduct (Gaines, L. K., & Worrall, J. L., 2011). I believe that internal affairs wasn't doing their job in a sense of a way up until recently. There has been a lot of police misconduct happening and finally they are taking control of the officers and dismissing them from the department. I felt as if an officers committed something that internal affairs would put them on leave and later on have them return back to the field, but given to what's been going on, they have been getting fired and served. No one should get away with anything especially the police officers, it's time for internal affairs to investigate everything correctly.

Classmate 3 Question: If you were a police chief, what would you do to make your internal affairs unit more far and credible?
