Classmate 1 Question: Participative police management is a management style that encourages input from members of the organization at every level. The pros of participative police management are an increase in productivity, more motivation from employers, and improved quality. Having participative police management employees will feel like they have a voice, and assume responsibility and take charge. Since the inputs or feedback comes from people who are part of the processes and are considered at the lowest or execution level. This means that even the minutest details are taken care of and reported. The cons are decision-making can slow down and there can be some security issues. Participative management is all about increased participation from all employees, and when there are many people involved in decision-making, the process definitely slows down. There is so much input and feedback that starts pouring from each side, and it takes time to verify the accuracy of measurements which can slow down the decision-making process. The security issue that can arise from the fact that since early stages too many people are known to lots of facts and information. This information may transform into critical information in the later stages. There is an increased risk of information being leaked out. I think most police departments are more involved in the chain of command of policing. This style does conflict with the classical organizational theory because the classical organizational theory focuses on the organization rather than the employees.

Classmate 2 Question: The participatory management system is the event in which subordinates of the police department are conducting responsibilities and organizing their units. Police Departments have multiple squads all depending on the number of patrolmen that they have sworn in. The squads, overlooked usually by a sergeant and a lieutenant, are usually split in half evenly; one half with day patrolmen and the second half with night patrolmen. If for any reason a subordinate needs to express a concern, an idea, or a feeling, they may do so to their supervisor which than may improve the management. This management system may conflict with the classical organizational theory as the classical organizational theory was the foundation for American police systems.

Classmate 3 Question: Participative police management allows officers of a lower level to help with planning their schedule and other responsibilities. It is good because it allows for each individual to get a feel of this authority and even give them an opportunity to see what is like as an officer higher up in rank. However, with this type of amagment there needs to be a lot of supervision on the calls made by these lower level officers. People cannot function without some form of structure so there still needs to be this hierarchical system in the department. It seems like most departments have a mix of both styles of management these days. This style is in conflict with the classical organizational theory because that focused on have a hierarchical system with order and rank. The participative management is further away from that ideology (Gaines & Worrall, 2011).
