Dr. Thompson wanted to evaluate whether students who have recently slept 7 or more hours in the past 24 hours are better at memory recall and studying focus than those who did not recently get sleep. Dr. Thompson asks students to come to Cooper Library in the evening between 6-8 pm. Every student answers "yes" or "no" as to whether they have slept 7 or more hours within the past 24 hours and are placed into an "Sleep" or "Non-Sleep" group. Every student in either condition is placed in a small cubicle that only contains 1 IPAD and a pair of headphones; all aspects of that cubicle (color of walls, no decor, type of chair, temperature etc) are identical no matter what condition you are in. Students receive the same memory recall test which contains the same string of letters and characters for them to recall 60 seconds later (memory recall is number of correctly recalled letters/characters). Dr Thompson finds that the sleep group has a higher average memory recall score compared to the non-sleep group.
